The Purpose Show

Mom life: we’re surrounded with the message that it’s the tired life, the no-time-for-myself life, the HARD life. And while it is hard and full of lots of servitude, the idea that motherhood means a joy-less life is something I’m passionate about putting a stop to. I’m on a mission to help you stop counting down the minutes till bedtime (at least most days). I want you to stop cleaning up after your kids’ childhood, and start being present for it - start enjoying it. I believe in John 10:10, that we are called to abundant life, and I know mothers are NOT excluded from that promise. Join me in conversations about simplicity, minimalism, and lots of other good stuff that leads to a life of less for the sake of enjoying more in motherhood. I’m Allie Casazza, and this is The Purpose Show.

As busy mom’s, we are in the hardest season when it comes to sex. We are exhausted majority of the time, we don’t feel sexy because things are leaking, we are being pulled on all day, and if we are being honest, sex isn’t our priority. We want it, but our bodies are too tired to do it. But sex isn’t just going to happen if we are waiting for it to happen. It has to be something that we start looking forward to. We need to have a different attitude and tell our bodies what to feel instead of waiting for our bodies to feel something.

In this episode, I am excited to sit down with Sheila Wray Gregoire to discuss Prioritizing Sex In Your Marriage. This episode is not light + it is not for tiny ears. We are talking about a lot of adult and marriage things. So, pop your headphones in and enjoy this episode alone! Make some space for yourself and enjoy!

In This Episode, Allie + Sheila Discuss:

  • The importance in believing you deserve sex + the impact it has on your drive for sex.
  • How libido works + varies from men to women.
  • Reverse libido + how to handle it.
  • Ways to prioritize sex among your busy life.

There’s this perfectionism that Pinterest and Instagram have brought into our society. And from that, there is this idea that if you change your mind, it looks like you are a mess. But, life is so crazy. Things are so stressful. Things change and flow all of the time. Seasons ebb and flow which means how you operate in those seasons sometimes changes. It is about saying “no” to what isn’t working and saying “yes” to what is. Do what works for you. Pursue what your version of less and your version of joy is in this season. It’s OK to change your mind!

In This Episode, Allie Discusses:

  • The weight of perfectionism on our culture + how that translates to when things change.
  • How saying “no” to what isn’t working means you are saying “yes” to more joy, time, family, and what matters.
  • The value of letting go of the idea that you have to stick to your guns in everything you say and do.
  • Why going back to homeschooling in this season has impacted her family (in a good way!)

Although Prioritizing Date Night seems like an episode that might be helpful before Valentine’s Day, I purposely waited until after because I believe date night is all of the time.  It shouldn’t be something that is focused on once a year. Date night is an investment. And what you choose to invest in is important. Being busy, having kids, and not being able to get away are not excuses. Choose to prioritize date night with your spouse - it is worth it!

In This Episode, Allie + Brian Discuss:

  • The value of date nights as an investment in your relationship.
  • Viewing date night as a hobby, not just something on the calendar.
  • The importance of relieving yourself from the pressure of date night.
  • Date night ideas for every couple.

As moms, specifically SAHM moms, are we doing full hair & makeup every single day?  No, not necessarily.  But we can get in better rhythms and habits and make ourselves our priority.  Because if we are making ourselves a priority and making ourselves up a little bit, we will feel better about ourselves. It may seem a bit silly talking about hair and makeup for yourself.  But it makes a huge difference throughout the decisions in the rest of your day when you start your day off feeling good about yourself.

Jaime McLaughlin is a hair + makeup professional who runs themachouseblog.com. She is also a mom to 4 little ones, so her life is quite busy! She has mastered how to simplify your hair + makeup routine as a busy mom. She is a well of wisdom in this area. And she is amazing, lovely, and so skilled! You are in for a treat this episode!

In This Episode, Allie + Jaime discuss:

  • The importance of making yourself a priority, as it reflects how you feel about yourself.
  • Tips for simplifying your hair + makeup routines as a busy mom.
  • Key products to an easy, everyday makeup look.

Allie is joined by her husband, Brian to discuss Cultivating Friendship in Your Marriage. Any couple can cultivate a friendship with a little work. Marriage is already work, so why not focus on working to be friends with your spouse. How do friends act? What do they do for each other? How are they with each other?  They go out for coffee. They talk about their day with one another. They intentionally spend time together in order to learn more about each other. If you are like this with a friend, why should you marriage be any different? That is your best friend!

Allie + Brian get it. Life happens. Things happen. When you have friendship in your marriage, it is such a great “fall back” to know you have your best friend by your side for the worst situations, scariest nights, and stressful days.

In This Episode, Allie + Brian discuss:

  • The importance of treating your significant other like a friend.
  • How keeping their friendship strong creates deeper intimacy.
  • What “common ground” looks like in their relationship.
  • Ways you can take time to learn everything about your significant other. Especially as years go by + things change.

Taking Care of Yourself is talked about a lot in our culture today, but I don’t think we are truly taking action on it. I think it is hard for us to do that. We are taking care of so many other people all the time that we forget that we matter. Our tanks get low, close to empty. We get snarky, cranky, fussy. It’s because your well is empty. You can not pull up fresh, hydrating water that your family needs from you if that well is bone dry. You have to take care of yourself and restore yourself.

Instead of always working on yourself in a way that has you focusing on your flaws and mistakes and what you need to change or be better at, shift your focus to what you are good at. In focusing on that, you will discover who you are and what restores your energy. Once you know those things, you can compile a list of ways that you can begin taking care of yourself.

Need help forming that list? I got you! You can download my Self-Care Ideas for Busy Moms for FREE!

In This Episode, Allie discusses:

  • The importance of self-care, especially as it relates to being a mom.
  • Ways that she restores and refreshes her energy.
  • Ideas for busy moms to take care of themselves.
