The Purpose Show

I’m Allie Casazza, and I’m here to normalize moms living their dream lives (and help them create it too!). I’m all about helping you design a life and motherhood of enjoyment, pleasure, and ease - all things that are rarely associated with being a mom. That changes now. Based on my time-tested and proven method, I am facilitating freeing, transformative conversations here on my podcast. We cover everything women and mothers are facing today, and I am not the girl who holds back, so you’ll be hearing very real, raw and open discussions in this space. If you desire to live a counter-culture mom life, if you’re a spiritually minded babe, and if you like super real talk followed by actual steps you can take to become your next-level self, you have landed in the perfect place, my love. Welcome to the shift.

It’s the day after Christmas a.k.a the best day of the year to declutter. Your kids are super busy with their new toys and way more willing to let go of their old ones. So, quick! Get going, mama! I’m re-releasing this pep talk to encourage and guide you in your post-Christmas decluttering efforts. You ready to face the new year feeling fresh? Then let’s do this!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we’re in the thick of the holiday season and a lot of people are just really happy that the holidays are almost over. The holidays are just a time that they dread because they have to spend time with their families and they are difficult to deal with.

I want you to enjoy the season with your family. I want you to feel confident and happy this time of year because it is special —and really this is valuable for anytime of the year. I want to give you some tips and some mindset shifts for dealing with the difficult people in your life. I hope this helps! Let’s get started!

I think it’s important to ask yourself hard questions, to reevaluate life and how you do things and see if you’re really where you want to be and if you’re really happy with the way you’re doing things. And today I want to help you reevaluate the space you live in—your home.

How we feel in our homes, or how we spend our time in our homes is a choice that we make. Even if we make it unintentionally, we’re making the decision to be either happy and content or miserable in our homes. It’s time to start being intentional. Let’s dive in!

Something I get asked about often is Sunday Night Prep or the Sunday Night Reset. It's something that Brian and I started years ago and I’ve talked about it before on my blog.

I believe it is such an important and life-changing practice. It's essentially a way to look ahead at the week and be responsive, not reactive. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” If you don't look ahead and know where you're going, you're not going to make it there.

So, my encouragement to you is to really listen to what I'm saying in this episode. Really challenge yourself to lean in and check in with yourself, your spouse, and your family once a week. I promise it will change the way you are doing life. Let’s jump in!

I get asked so many questions about decluttering—which is what I’m most known for. Lately, there have been a lot of questions about people getting stuck in their decluttering efforts. So, I hosted live Q&A workshop online and answered a bunch of these questions live! I couldn’t answer every single one but I answered the ones that are the most common. Decluttering is doable for everyone. A minimalist lifestyle is possible for everyone and I can show you how to get there in a way that’s practical, possible and relative to you and your family. This is what makes me different from other minimalist teachers. You don’t want to miss this. Especially if you’re feeling stuck.  Everything I talk about in this episode can be found HERE: alliecasazza.com/shownotes/129

I love doing business coaching. I do it really exclusively on the side. It’s not a main part of my business. I’m very focused on motherhood, minimalism and my courses. But I have learned so much from turning my blog into a multiple seven figure business in a very short amount of time. And I think there’s something to be said for that.

Recently a woman reached out to me on Instagram and wanted to learn all the business things. We were messaging back and forth and I had the thought, “What if I just got her on and gave her a free introductory business coaching call and we made it an episode?” So, that’s what we did. Amelia has three kids and a fourth on the way, and she's running a business with a similar model to mine. This is a super interesting call and I really hope that you get some golden nuggets from it.

I’ve got Kendra Hennessy with me today and we’re talking about self-care. I know, I know. Self-care has become such a trendy thing. There are a lot of products out there that are based on self-care. And it can feel like this really over-talked about and super annoying thing. But before you click away, I don’t think Kendra and I are going to talk about anything that you have heard a million times before.

We’re going to talk about the difference between self-care and selfishness because moms can be really judgmental toward each other, and it needs to stop. So, if you’ve ever felt judged for taking care of yourself or you’ve ever judged another mom for taking care of herself, this episode is for you! Let’s jump in!

The world we live in right now is a result of what we believe and what we have inside of us. We each as human beings have a huge responsibility to bring change. But white people have a huge responsibility to end racism. And we need to get the heck up and take action.

And I get it. It’s hard to talk about race, racism and white privilege. It gets messy and awkward and there’s fear involved. But, white people, we have to do better. We have to be better. This needs to end now and it is our responsibility.

I’m so honored that I got to have a discussion with Latasha Morrison. Tasha is a bridge-builder, an author, a speaker, and a powerful voice in the fight for racial justice. She’s just an incredible woman. I was so nervous and so uncomfortable in the weeks leading up to this discussion but I pushed through. I had the conversation and it’s amazing. I’m so honored that this is a part of my show. I hope you’ll open up your eyes, hearts and ears to this woman and her work. Let’s dive in!

Feminism has kind of been a dirty word in our society. I know a lot of us have been misinformed or hurt by this word or some of the ideology behind this word, but I have learned so much over the past few years about feminism and about God’s heart and purpose for women. And I have wanted to talk about this for many months now, but it’s such a big and careful conversation to have. So, I asked my friend and author, Kara-Kae James to join me in a discussion about feminism, what it is, and the stigma surrounding this word. I can’t wait for you to hear it! Let’s dive in!

This episode is the start of a new segment called “Kinda Super Helpful” with my very good friend, Kendra Hennessy of Mother Like a Boss. We’re having a conversation, and it’s really laid back and fun, but we also talk about some serious stuff. There is so much gold in this episode. We’re chatting about judging others, being empowered to make choices that are right for you, traditional gender roles, preparing your home for company, routines, and so much more.  I hope you enjoy it!

What I'm sharing with you in this episode is an exercise that I've been practicing lately and it's been helping me find clarity in what things I'm doing in my life that are not aligning with who I want to be, with who I'm working to become. I really believe in the power of always learning and growing because I want to be a better version of myself. I want to be increasing, getting closer to God in my faith, closer to my husband in our marriage, and closer to my kids as I parent them.

This is kind of like a pep talk and an idea you can take action on at the same time, and I think it's going to give some of you some real clarity. Let’s jump in!

This episode is going to be more serious. Recently as I was sitting still in meditation, I had a realization that was so powerful. It was almost in the form of a vision. If you sometimes worry about others’ expectations of you, or even high expectations you set for yourself, this could be really helpful for you. I want to share it because I believe that it can set someone else free, like it did for me.

Today I’m talking with Jessica Turner, author of Stretched Too Thin: How Working Moms Can Lose The Guilt, Work Smarter & Thrive. This book impacted me in such a deep way. It’s really practical and helped me feel like I’m not alone.

We're going to talk about mom guilt of all kinds, so don't click away from this episode if you don't work because this will still set you free and really help you.

I absolutely cannot wait for you to listen to this incredible, powerful conversation with Ashley Abercrombie. Ashley is a beautiful, amazing woman, and the author of the book, Rise Of the Truth Teller: Own your story, tell it like it is, and live with holy gumption. Ashley's story is powerful, and is also really heavy. You'll hear a lot of it in the podcast episode, but I would not recommend this book if rape or abortion are triggers for you. I want to be honest about that up front so that you can be aware of that.

Even if you haven't experienced trauma or you're not one of the many, many women who have been raped or had abortions, come into this conversation with headphones, first of all, for your little ones to not hear, and with an open heart because there's so much goodness in here. I'm really honored that I get to air this conversation on my podcast.

I get a lot of questions about how my family—especially my kids—feel about minimalism, my business, and how we live simply. I’ve had a lot of requests for a family-style interview. And I’m so excited for this episode because I’m sitting down with my ten-year-old daughter, Bella, and we’re having a fun girl-talk about our family, our way of living, and what she thinks about it all. Plus, you’ll get to hear a little bit about the business she’s starting as well. This is going to be so fun!

I was so excited to share this with you guys that when I recorded this episode I actually streamed it live on social media. I want to talk to you guys about the power in 15 minutes. I started doing these little 15 minute “resets” and they are total game-changers! How many times have you been going about your day and you feel like things are just not going well? You’re bickering with your spouse, your kids are acting crazy, the house feels like a total crap show and you’re really frustrated? You want to hit that reset button, but you also feel like you don’t have the energy to do that because you’re tired, drained and it’s going to get undone anyway. This 15-minute reset hack is going to pull you out of that negative spiral so you can take action and change the situation. I really think this can be applied to just about anything and everything. So, let’s jump in and talk about it!  Everything I talk about in this episode you can find HERE: alliecasazza.com/shownotes/119

Everyone has low days when you just feel tired, weary, lackluster, or defeated. In this episode I’m talking about how to deal with life when you’re in a slump. I want to be really honest with you and share practical things that you can do when you’re feeling that way. I hope that this helps you guys, that you feel like you could come back and listen to this to get some inspiration when you're really feeling uninspired. Let’s jump in!

I want today’s episode to be a perspective shift for you guys. It's a really, really simple thing you can do to set yourself up to have a better day: Don't check your phone first thing in the morning. When you open your phone in the morning and you’re looking at your text messages, or your Instagram, or opening your email, you’re automatically giving away your power. In this episode I’m going to explain what I mean by that. There are habits that you need to break when it comes to your phones in order to set yourself up to have a better day. Let’s dive in!

This episode is a little different. It is actually the audio from a live class that I led on social media. And it is jam packed with some serious value. I’ve got everything that you would need for the back-to-school season and beyond. This episode is about systems, organization, and a streamlined, simplified approach to handling incoming paperwork, email systems, extracurricular activities, routines & rhythms, meal planning, and how you decide what is worth your time and what isn't. So, whether you have school-aged kids or not, this should be helpful!  Everything I talk about in this episode can be found HERE http://alliecasazza.com/shownotes/116

This episode is fun to share. I don't try to simplify everything, but sometimes when something is taking a lot of time or feels a little bit too much, I'll ask myself, “How can I simplify this?”. I thought it'd be fun to see the “bloopers” side of simplifying because there are definitely some things that I've tried that I thought would simplify my life that just didn't. In this episode I’m sharing some of those things and talking about what I learned and how I adjusted. So, let's jump in!

This is a sort of follow-up episode of one of the most popular episodes that I've ever done for The Purpose Show called “How My Morning Ritual Is Changing My Life.” I used to be really religious about doing my morning ritual. It was such a life-giving time for me. Then some things changed and my mornings looked different. This new episode is about how some things have shifted for me, what I've learned, and what my morning ritual looks like today.

This episode is actually the audio from a live stream that I did a while back about the quote “The grass is greener on the other side because it’s fake.” The response I got on this was so overwhelming. A lot of people found it really raw and impactful. Most people loved it, but it ruffled a few feathers too.

This is one of those messages that needs to be shared and spread to the masses because it's so important. It’s so key, so impactful, and such a perspective shift. I’m excited for you to listen!

I think social media can be such a waste of time and on those same platforms where so much time is wasted, I love creating spaces that are intentional and inspire you to be better. I have a free Facebook group that’s really big, really fun, really engaged. It's an attachment of this podcast, a place where we discuss episodes. Discuss abundant life, simplicity, and intentional living for mothers and women of all types. It's such a cool place.

Once a month in that group, I do what is called an Allie Chat where I pull somebody out from the community there and we go live together. There was an Allie Chat recently with a woman named Christina who is just a gem. She asked such amazing questions about her motherhood. I loved the conversation we had and the audience loved the answers that I gave. It was such a powerful Allie Chat and I knew that I had to use it as an episode for The Purpose Show.

Did you know that, on average, you make 35,000 decisions every single day? That is a lot and feels overwhelming! But decision making doesn’t have to be that way. If we shift our focus from putting off decisions, putting pressure on them, or ignoring them and we turn our focus to the next right thing, the whole decision-making process will be more fun and less intimidating!

Emily Freeman is the founder of an incredible movement called The Next Right Thing. She has a book and a podcast around this theory of focusing on the next right thing in front of us and the power that has in our decision making. Give yourself permission to stay in the moment and take action on the next right thing! (Like listening to this episode, because it is a GOOD one!)

Annie Dillard always says, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” That is an easy statement to hear when we are in restful seasons driven by balance and simplicity. But what about those seasons that are full, busy, and can lead to feeling overwhelmed, mentally cluttered, and a cranky attitude?

It is important that we listen to our bodies and minds, and that we take it one day, even one step at a time. And it is freeing when we allow ourselves to become intuitive and make necessary changes and shift in busier seasons. Just know that everything is figureoutable and everything can be simplified. It is ok if you have to cut out or cut back on things. Life won’t end!

So let’s dive in and talk about how you can navigate the really busy, full seasons of your life well, and really show up well in those times of life!
